Police are still searching for the offenders who may be responsible for at least 30 thefts reported in Grand Haven Township so far, including a stolen handgun and thousands of dollars in stolen electronics.
Most of these vehicles were parked right in the owner’s driveway or next to businesses when the nocturnal perpetrators made their move. The thefts have occurred primarily in the area of Robbins Road south to M-45 and Lakeshore Drive to the east side of the township.
Even if that’s not your neighborhood, you can’t assume they won’t be targeting other areas in the future.
It is astonishing how many people in our area still leave their homes and vehicles unlocked while they’re either away or asleep. It seems quaint at first how trusting our community is, but it’s also scary how easy of a target an unlocked home or vehicle can be.
While it’s sad that we can no longer enjoy a community where there’s no need to lock up, we can’t be naive. In this day and age, it’s not safe to leave your valuables, your boat, your car or your home unsecured.
Don’t make it easy for these criminals. Take the proper precautions to protect your property and loved ones. Lock your doors and keep valuables out of sight.
Just a few seconds of your time to put your purse or electronics out of view and locking your doors can prevent a major headache.
