SL man injured in car vs. pole crash on 148th Avenue

(UPDATED: 4 p.m. on AUG. 17) A Spring Lake man remains in critical condition following a one-car crash this morning on 148th Avenue just south of State Road.

 Joel Crouse, 78, was taken by ambulance to Hackley Hospital in Muskegon following the 7:25 a.m. crash., said Sgt. Jon Ditmar of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department.

 According to witnesses, Crouse was was driving his Toyota Avalon sedan south on 148th Avenue and passed through the 4-way stop at the State Road intersection, Ditmar said. The car went across the center line, off the road and struck a utility pole.

Crouse's air bag did deploy and he was injured, Ditmar said. Crouse was wearing a seatbelt.

Ditmar said officials are still seeking information from any potential witnesses. Call the sheriff's department at 616-738-4025.

The crash is still under investigation.

Hoping for only the best and a full recovery for Mr Crouse.

However, I have been wanting to comment on this...where the accident occurred must be in the newly paved section of 148th St.

I have never seen a new road in worse condition.
