No Democrat filed nominating petitions to run in the Michigan 2nd Congressional District against Huizenga. However, on Thursday, the Michigan Department of State certified Muskegon City Commissioner Willie German Jr. as winner of the Aug. 7 Democratic primary with 1,813 write-in votes.
German's write-in campaign began after another Democrat ended his congressional bid on the day of the filing deadline.
The Republican-leaning district includes Muskegon, Lake, Newaygo, Oceana and Ottawa counties; and parts of Mason, Kent and Allegan counties.
