Next weekend is the Salmon Festival. This weekend, Sept. 14-16, you and your family can educate yourselves on the local ag industry on Friday night, take a bike ride Saturday morning, and visit a car and motorcycle show on Sunday.

(1) Expo celebrating Michigan and Ottawa farms — 5-9 p.m. Friday at Tri-Cities Historical Museum, 200 Washington Ave., Grand Haven. This free event combines family fun and education, focusing on agriculture and food production in and around Ottawa County. Michigan’s agricultural production is the second-most diverse in the United States, after California. It is Michigan’s No. 2 industry, after automobile manufacturing. Ottawa is the largest ag-producing county in the state, ranging from small blueberry farms to co-ops that bring regional produce to market. The expo will include food samples, a Critter Barn with a variety of live farm animals, and Michigan State University Extension and Future Farmers of America to answer questions about regional farming and careers in agriculture.

(2) North Bank Bike Rally — at Coast Guard Park in Ferrysburg on Saturday. The ride begins and ends at the park. Riders can choose a 20-mile, 40-mile or 80-mile route. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and the rides begin at 9:30. When the riders return to the park, the Grand Haven Eagles will be waiting for them with a beverage and entertainment tent, beginning at noon. Bands will play from 7-11 p.m. For more, visit

(3) American Legion Car and Motorcycle Show — is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Grand Haven post, 700 Harbor Ave. The fifth annual show includes a pancake breakfast from 9-11 a.m., and hot dogs and hamburgs served from noon to 2 p.m. An awards ceremony is at 3 p.m. Admission is $10, and proceeds go to American Legion programs.

(4) Drive-In Movie Night — 6-7:30 p.m. Friday at Reslife Church Grand Haven parking lot, 12900 U.S. 31 at Lincoln Street in Grand Haven Township. They'll be showing "Despicable Me" on a big screen. Everything, including snacks, is free.

(5) Herb and Gourd Fest — at Fredrik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. You have to pay admission to the gardens. The festival includes cooking demonstrations, lectures and sampling. Meijer Gardens is at 1000 E. Beltline Ave. NE, Grand Rapids.

Honorable mentions: The Bucs Pride football game Friday night to honor cancer survivors and victims, a doll sale at the Grand Haven Community Center from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, and an Adopt-a-Beach cleanup at North Beach Park in Ferrysburg from 9-11 a.m. Saturday.

per The American Legion Car and Motorcycle Show.....Admission is 10 bucks??? Are they charging 10 bucks to view the cars or is this the entry fee for car owners to show their vehicles? Not clear from the blurb who's paying the 10 bucks.

The Bucs Pride Football Game should be on that list. What a great way to spend a Friday night supporting your community and to honor cancer survivors and victims.

Nature's Creative Edge - This is an event where floral designers and artists come, from all around the country, to put together amazing floral displays at a gentleman's home in Fruitport. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for students, and children 12 and under get in for free. This years theme is "Storybooks and Fairy Tales - Fantastically Floral." All proceeds go towards a scholarship fund. The displays are set up on five acres of groomed woodlands and you are invited to walk through them as many times as you would like. My personal recommendation is to go and see it while it is still light out, and then again once the sun has gone down to see the effects of the candles and spotlights. This is a Kid friendly event. Bring your camera! You will not forget this awesome event! Stop in At The Grand Haven Garden House & Floral, Calico Cat, or at any Eastern Floral location to purchase tickets. Tickets will also be available at the gates. Parking is at the intersection of Sternberg and Hilton Park Rd. Be sure to check them out on facebook too! This takes place Friday & Saturday from 6-9pm, and Sunday from 4-7pm.
