They are the seventh and eighth human fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in the state this year.
The deaths reported Tuesday in the Michigan Department of Community Health department's weekly summary include an 87-year-old Macomb County man and a 65-year-old Ogemaw County man. State health officials said their deaths are part of five new reported West Nile cases.
As of Tuesday, 160 cases have been reported statewide. There were 34 cases and two deaths in 2011.
At least 1,405 serious illnesses and 118 deaths from West Nile have been reported nationwide.
