Boy, 4, killed walking next to Homecoming float

A 4-year-old boy was killed at the Wyoming High School Homecoming Parade when the float he was walking next to struck him.

Wyoming Police said it happened in the 1300 block of 32nd Street SW at about 6 p.m. Friday.

Police said the boy had been riding on the float and had been helped off it by his parents. While walking near the float, he somehow got entangled in its tires.

The Wyoming Fire Department and AMR ambulance took the boy to Spectrum Health-Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids, where he died Friday evening.
