Gordon rushed for 202 yards and three touchdowns as the Trojans pummeled the Cardinals, 38-8. Gordon also recorded a game-high 10 tackles for Fruitport, which is now 7-0 overall and finished a perfect 6-0 in Lakes Eight play.

Gordon scored on runs of 69, 8 and 12 yards as he accounted for his team’s first three touchdowns. After a scoreless first quarter, he reached the end zone twice in the second quarter. The conversion attempt failed after each score, leaving the Trojans on top 12-0 at halftime.

Gordon added his third touchdown in the third quarter, then teammate Aaron Veihl picked off a pass from Orchard View’s Darece Roberson and returned it 75 yards for a touchdown.

Mitchell Reyes added a scoring run for Fruitport.

The Trojans held the Cardinals to just 167 yards of total offense, including 97 yards on the ground. Leading rusher Justin Hunter-Smith managed 68 yards on 10 carries.

Roberson was 3-of-9 passing for 70 yards, and was also picked off twice.

Fruitport quarterback Tyler Fehler had a nice game, completing 7-of-14 passes for 46 yards, although he was intercepted twice. He also carried the ball 12 times for 95 yards.

Veihl continued he strong season at wide receiver with five catches for 35 yards.

Gordon’s 10 tackles led a stingy Trojans’ defensive effort. Jacob Breese added nine stops, while Colin Butler and Chris Hedricks each registered a sack.

The Trojans will put their unbeaten record on the line next Friday at Muskegon Catholic Central, before closing out its season on the road at DeWitt.
