The Stevens Family

It certainly did not have libeous or defamtory comments!!

The Stevens Family

By the way, did anyone happen to see the new Facebook comerical talking about how a chair in a tree links us all together???? Kind of ironic.............. Proves how dumb this really has become. Link to Facebook ad here...... http://www.facebook.com/index.ph...

What the.....Why did you remove the Stevens Family comments Tribune? I did not see anything libelous or defamatory. WOW. I happen to agree that you guy's are just milking this topic as well. Seems the poll results must not be what you expect!! Gee, hope that's not to libelous or defamatory for you!

Mark Brooky

No one likes to be called stupid. That's just not nice. That would be removed no matter if it was us, the mayor, the president or PeeWee Herman that's called a not-very-nice name. I refer you to the rules when you sign up.

The Stevens Family

I did not call anyone stupid. I mentioned that the story was stupid to keep bringing it up! IT IS stupid to keep bringing it up! Apparently the tribune has a HATER in the office.

Mark Brooky

Here's the problem quote: "... unless this stupid newspaper keeps bringing it up!"

Tri-cities realist

So now the word "stupid" is worthy of censorship? Seems kind of petty to me. Hopefully that word isn't too egregious. And I didn't see anywhere in the first 8 rules of the Guidelines that prohibits statements that are "not nice".

Mark Brooky

The word itself is not worthy of censorship, but calling anyone or a company in particular stupid or some other derogatory term is not allowed.

The Stevens Family

Apparently insinuating that Mr. David is a racist according to the article "Hanging chairs escalate hate in campaign" is not at all defamatory or derogative in anyway towards him or his family, according to the Tribune's rules in regards to writing a very public article in the paper for everyone to see? That is even considered slanderous according to the law, isn't it? Saying that the paper is stupid for rehashing old news, isn't. Very much a double standared in this case, and sad.

Wingmaster

Apparently the rules don't apply when your the Emperor with no clothing!

ROFLMAO STFU LOL Power can be all consuming, no Trib?

Tri-cities realist

Please help me understand these rules. The word "stupid" is an adjective, which is used to describe a noun, a person, place, or thing. And it generally relates to the intelligence of the noun, so a place can't really be stupid. We know people can be. So that leaves things. Inanimate things can't be stupid, since they lack the capacity to reason. I'm wondering if the same can be said for things such as the opinions of the staff at the Trib. Please help, I'm so confused.

Well, here's where I have to stand up and make myself a target. I would suggest at this point that unless you subscribe to the Mitt Romney " Corporations are people too" line of thought, that there IS a huge difference between saying "Mark Brooky is stoopid" and saying "The Grand Haven Tribune is stoopid". If I single out a certain person for derision, rightly or wrongly, than you may have reason to be offended, assuming your skin is really that thin. However calling out a faceless entity, ala, The Grand Haven Tribune, the poster is not making it a personal one on one attack because they don't know who exactly is responsible for removal of a fairly innocuous opinion. I guess the irony here for me is that if you'd just left it alone and moved on you'd be getting a lot less feedback than you are now. Of course from what I've seen lately you guys are pretty good at stirring the ole pot so maybe it's just a case of you reap what you sow. And yes, I know I spelt stupid wrong, that was for dramatic effect.

The Stevens Family

I agree... I have read plenty of "not nice" statements and articles on this topic alone this week.

LessThanAmused

The only definitive list I've ever seen of things you can't say was George Carlin's. That one was pretty much black and white. These discussion guidelines here and many other places I see have large areas of grey, so that it's hard to know just exactly where the cliff's edge is.......

ghresident

No kidding Wing! How many articles do we need on some "stupid" chairs hanging from some tree's? Thats about as stupid as 8 articles on the deer hunt........What we really need is the comment section removed completely since they are OUR views and we cant say what we think. If we cant have free speech why have it here? Rules are rules and I agree completely. But this is just insane........................

New poll: Who thinks the Grand Haven Tribune is bias in their reporting and unfair in moderating their polls? Answer options: 1. Whats the Tribune 2. Don't care I'm trimming my toe nails 3. No, I get my news from TMZ. 4 Yes, because I think the paper is unintelligent!
