Classmates participated in a recent dedication of several memorial bricks placed at the monument. The bricks are located in a pathway that leads from the center of the park to the monument.

“Our class was all behind this,” Class of '48 co-chairwoman Verlabeth Thomas said.

Gary Byl said the Fallen Heroes Memorial Monument Committee contacted the Class of '48 in July. By the end of August, the class had raised more than $1,000 for the brick project.

“We collected about $1,218 in about five weeks,” Byl said.

Class members said the cause is very important to them.

“A couple of these guys, they graduated with us,” Thomas said, referring to local men who died in service during the Korean War.

Thomas noted that it was good to see those who sacrificed their lives during wars are honored with a monument in Central Park.
