The No. 4-ranked Trojans spotted DeWitt a 21-0 halftime lead, then battled all the way back before losing, 21-20.

DeWitt was ranked in the state before losing the previous weekend.

The Panthers got on the board first when Jacob Heath threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Clements in the first quarter.

Jacob Johnson then threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Anderson. Johnson then hit Clements on an 18-yard touchdown pass to make it 21-0 DeWitt.

The Trojan’ comeback began in the third quarter, when Dakota Gordon scored from 6 yards out.

Gordon scored on another 6-yard run in the fourth quarter, then plunged into the end zone from 4 yards out later in the fourth.

However, the point-after try on his final touchdown missed, leaving the Trojans a point short on the scoreboard.

Gordon finished with 148 yards rushing on 24 carries. Quarterback Tyler Fehler added 15 carries for 45 yards. He also completed 6-of-11 passes for 116 yards.

Aaron Veihl continued his outstanding season at wide receiver as he hauled in four passes for 84 yards. Amilio Flores had a catch for 22 yards, and Jacob Breese had a reception for 10 yards.

Breese led the Trojans’ defenders with nine tackles. Nathan Kriger added eight, while Fehler recorded seven stops.

The Trojans did a nice job of stuffing the run defensively, holding DeWitt to 36 yards on the ground.

However, Johnson had a strong game at quarterback for the Panthers, completing 18-of-28 passes for 197 yards.

Fruitport is now 8-1 on the season and will learn its playoff fate on Sunday, when the Michigan High School Athletic Association reveals the playoff field on its Selection Sunday Show, which will air at 6 p.m. on FOX Sports Detroit.
