Man, 55, admits strangling trailer neighbor, 24

Authorities in central Michigan said a 55-year-old man has confessed to beating and strangling a 24-year-old neighbor as part of a sexual fantasy, hiding her naked body, and then returning to her trailer home and helping her 3-year-old son get costumed for Halloween.

John D. White was arraigned Thursday in Mount Pleasant on first-degree murder charges and ordered jailed without bond. The ex-convict said he was a church employee until this week.

Police said White admitted thinking several weeks about killing Rebekah Gay. In an affidavit, police said White told them he went to Gay's trailer about 2 a.m. Wednesday, struck her head repeatedly with a mallet, then strangled her with a zip tie.

Police said he led them to her body, a half-mile away from the home in Isabella County's Broomfield Township.

Ex-convict???? My guess is his past crime was some sex crime. Just goes to show these people can't be rehabilitated. If it wasn't a sex crime that he was convicted for in the past, the crime needs to be published. He still wasn't rehabilitated, either way you look at it. Now we have pay and house this guy again!!!! Obviously he should not have been let out in the first place. Time for the chair.....do not pass go and collect $200, go straight to the chair. He admitted planning this for weeks, guilty has confessed. He should be six feet under already.

100% right on ohwell, "if" this wart on the ass of society has a record!

Sesame

Obviously this man had deep rooted issues, but statistically it costs millions more per year to use the death penalty than it does to house prisoners. Millions we could put toward public schools, college student aid, new roads, playgrounds ect.
And as for rehabilitating such people, there is no telling they will never repeat their offenses, but hate the sin not the sinner.

ohwell

Why do you say it costs millions to execute someone? I don't believe that for one minute. If that is the case, someone is getting taken. I can offer a solution where it would cost about $.03. It is called a firing line with one person doing the shooting with a .22 caliber. If you want something bigger, then it might cost $.25. Quick and to the point. Unlike the woman he killed, who suffered a slow death. Let me know, God forbid if this would ever happen to your daughter, mother or sister. I am going to go out on a limb and guess your thought process would change. As far as putting millions toward public schools, not going to happen. Since we have to house these clowns, cater their every whim and demand. Things such as dietary needs because they choose not to eat meat or their religion prohibits them. Not much of a religion they have if they are incarcerated for committing a crime such as this guy did. Also the fact that they are not allowed to get generic prescription drugs, meanwhile the guards working in the prison have to settle for generic drugs. See a problem with that? I have a real issue with it. Why? Because I am paying for these clowns to get better treatment than a lot of people that are law abiding citizens. I say bread and water 3 times a day, hard labor 7 days a week for 16 hours a day. No need for exercise yards that way, they will get their exercise doing the hard labor. Just think how much the crime rate would drop. Don't think so, take a look at other countries that actually punish their criminals, instead of giving them a life of luxury and catering their every need.

Wingmaster

Wake up!!! The system does not rehabilitate theses warts. If anything its a badge of twisted toughness to be incarcerated. When you kill someone and you have your due process and your convicted, death penalty. We should use what ever means is most cost effective to complete the sentence. Lets see your stats...." cost millions more to use death penalty". Like to see where you get that nonsense from.

If we put roadblocks and their attendant costs in front of every criminal prosecution like we do in cases involving capital punishment, everyone would conclude that it is cheaper to give convicted felons a ticket and small fine and send them on their way rather than prosecuting them for their crimes – such has been the success of liberal opponents of the death penalty. Let's say someone feloniously assaulted a member of your immediate family, and those opposed to imprisoning people because of poverty, race, religion, mental capacity, poverty (whatever) had successfully convinced legislators, governors, and judges of the correctness of their position: the felon who committed the crime would have a trial, separated into two phases – guilt and whether or not to imprison. In many cases he would have to have two attorneys, a legal team, and expert witnesses all paid for by the taxpayer. If found guilty in both trial phases, he could appeal to a higher court, while being held in an expensive confinement separate from other prisoners. He would then have additional appeals – state Habeus Corpus petition, then federal Habeus Corpus petition, then a Clemency appeal. The legal team supporting all of these appeals is paid for, of course, by the taxpayer. These roadblocks are not required by the Constitution, but are largely unfunded mandates imposed since the 1960's by special interest liberal legislators and judges (not to mention trial lawyers). Add it all up, apply it to physical crimes against persons short of murder and mayhem, and you would get the same argument – prison for these offenses is too expensive, we can't afford it, let's find a way of punishing the taxpayer not involving jail time. I despair when I think how far we have sunk while genuflecting at the altar of liberalism.

There's an interesting documentary about Vipassana meditation used at an alabama prison. It's on netflix. You should watch it.

Vladtheimp

There's an interesting movie about magical thinking where a boy believes in magic beans, It' on Amazon. You should watch it.

Wingmaster

Careful with that instruction as beans could also become part of "Be" diet and the toxic fumes mixed with the writings would over come us!!!

Have you not read the reports related to this individual? At age 17 he stabbed a woman. At age 39 he was involved in the death of another woman. At age 55, he has admitted to killing this 24 year old women AFTER which he dressed her 3 year-old son for Halloween. "Rehabilitation"? Oui vey... It is not about hating anyone, it's about justice for the victim and protecting the public.

Be

I love the fact that he was a 'pastor'! Classic. Endless ironies....

ohwell

Where does it say he was a pastor? I didn't know you had to be a "pastor" to be a church employee. I am going to go out on a limb here and doubt he was a pastor. He could have been a custodian or some other position within the church.

Be

If you only read grand haven tribune, you will not find out that he was the pastor of christ community church (which he was). Unfortunately, satan got to him.... (or so his congregants said).

Mark Brooky

Just to be clear, he was the pastor of Christ Community Fellowship near Mount Pleasant, and not the former Christ Community Church in Spring Lake.

RenegadeX

Some reports say this church only has a congregation of 14 members. Sounds like this has nothing to do with religion, though one has to believe if there is a hell, this "pastor" will have a front row seat.

Wingmaster

You would be happy if there was a church within 5 miles of the murder so you can add your anti god crap here! If you want to "be" so above it all, what is your solution to the murder epidemic in this country. Your smugness is getting tiresome without an intellectual response. You so want to portrait yourself as an intellectual but offer us nothing.

Be

I cannot offer you an intellectual solution because there isn't one. look inside for truth. Any answer I give is only designed to ask questions that are begging to be asked, but lay dormant for want of an open mind. The reason I post is because I'm tired of the freedom we have in this country not being used to ask important questions. How can we change the murder rate in our country? Each individual needs to take personal responsibility for their own internal development as a being (hence my screen name) and NOT seek refuge in religion or any other method to ESCAPE what they cannot escape. Belief is an escape. What is necessary is to BE. Let the mud settle, and the water is pure once again.

Vladtheimp

Be - I take it that you are NOT an escapist since you recognize that there is no escape from reality. If belief is an escape, and you are not an escapist, then you believe in nothing. If you believe in nothing, that would include the belief that the truth lurks inside you. If you believe in nothing, then how are any questions "important?" You appear to believe in individuals taking personal responsibility for their own internal development, but you say you believe in nothing. This is reasoning worthy of the great Oozlum bird. It was but it no longer be.

Be

What a twist of words you try to use to get away from what is actually said! We're clearly saying that a set of externalizing beliefs does not give you relief from what is inside. Of course we 'believe' that the truth lurks inside. We do not need another person or book to define what that truth is though.

Vladtheimp

That thar's funny - By quoting what you said directly " Belief is an escape." "Each individual needs to take personal responsibility for their own internal development as a being (hence my screen name) and NOT seek refuge in religion or any other method to ESCAPE what they cannot escape." I am accused of twisting words. When you now say "We're clearly saying" - do you have an errant mouse or Oozlum bird in your pocket? I thought there was only one of you, or are you speaking on behalf of a whole hive of Bees? Just tryin to figger out what you be sayin, bro.

Be

It's obviously beyond you at the moment....

Vladtheimp

I think my manifest ignorance of your philosophy is not of the "moment." Probably I am one of the few who don't understand and I will remain hopelessly ignorant for the rest of my days about how quoting someone is twisting their words - Oops- that's exactly what politicians say. Mea Culpa.

Be

The reason it's beyond you is that you don't realize this is not about words or politics, it's about the fact that regardless of what a religion believes, people are still people. There is not a difference between you or I.

Vladtheimp

As there is a huge difference between Charles Manson and Mother Theresa, there appears to be quite a gap between you and me.

Wingmaster

"Be" or "We".....which do you see when you search? It appears "we" have discovered a personality issue!

Be

The word we is preferable because of the following definition of
Persona: A persona (plural personae or personas), in the word's everyday usage, is a social role or a character played by an actor. The word is derived from Latin, where it originally referred to a theatrical mask.
If I speak as an 'I', 'I' pretend that the things spoken are from a 'me', when it reality they are a universal truth handed down through the ages. This mask we wear is only for a time.... If you think it carries on, you are mistaken.

Wingmaster

You are funny. You say not to point fingers or judge others yet you assume what I believe. You are shallow yet think you are so deep. Think you should just "be" quiet as you are revealing so much, ah should "we" say muddy water in your personality!

Be

You can win this little war of comments. It doesn't matter. Opening the heart to truth beyond words is the only hope for liberation. The original comment about the irony of this crime stands...

Wingmaster

Think I'll just keep being me. Standing firm and taking care of the community when and where it needs it. You stand over there on the sidelines with your heart gushing believing because you care and know the "truth" you help. Have a nice day.

Wingmaster

Your an empty soul. Look inside yourself. If you want to "be" be so with purpose. You are a house of cards and will collapse like one at some point, someday. If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything!
