n? Isn't it all the same type of grass? Is there some kind of MLB regulation for the grass, as in color or length or type?"

ANSWER:

Rick Thompson, manager of baseball media relations for the Detroit Tigers, mowed this one down for us.

Thompson said the different grass color at the park this year is due to replacement sod that was installed following the Paul McCartney (July 2011) and Kid Rock (August 2011) concerts.

"The older sod and replacement sod can look different due to variations in weather conditions and other factors," he explained.

Regarding the question of Major League Baseball guidelines pertaining to grass length, Thompson said Rule 1.04 in the 2012 Official Baseball Rules provides details regarding field layout. However, it does not — surprisingly —mention anything regarding grass length, type or quantity.
