Mel Bos, who was driving the semi, said the man pulled out of the Idle Hour parking lot right in front of him.

“He came out of the driveway, never slowed or stopped,” Bos said. “... I couldn’t even swerve.”

Emergency personnel were called at about 7:20 a.m. to Savidge Street (M-104), just west of Jackson Street.

The tanker truck was traveling in the outside lane when the GMC pickup truck pulled into his path from the north side of the road. The semi hit the pickup on its front driver’s side.

The semi suffered some damage and a flat tire.

The driver of the pickup truck, Jim Olson, 72, had just eaten breakfast in the Idle Hour, said waitress Carrie Westbrook.

“He’s a regular,” she said. “He seemed fine at the time.”

Westbrook said they heard what sounded like their dumpster being emptied, then realized there was a crash.

Traffic on M-104 was slowed for a while after the crash.

Olson was taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated and released from the Grand Have hospital this afternoon.

Uh....just a small detail here, but shouldn't the heading for this article read "Semi hits pick-up in Spring Lake" ? The article says the pick-up driver pulled out into the path of the semi if I'm reading it right so he would be the hittee not the hitter. :-)

Lol, I'm wondering if the truck took the driver hostage as it seems the pick-up truck is at fault here because it pulled out in front of the semitrailer!
