Shirley Schorejs, 84, of Palm Harbor, Fla., passed away on December 30, 2010. She was born in 1926 to parents, Roland and Margaret Young, of Grand Haven.
Shirley and her husband, Joseph, and sons, Robert and Daniel, lived many years in Grand Haven and Spring Lake. They liked to spend many of their weekends at their cottage on Government Lake, fishing and entertaining family and friends. Several family reunions took place there. Shirley and her sister, Helen Leversee, were great cooks and once owned a restaurant in Grand Haven called The Colonial Kitchen.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Robert Schorejs (Karen) of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Daniel Schorejs of Muskegon; five grandchildren: Derek Schorejs (Kathy) of Ohio, John Schorejs (Erika) of Ohio, Michelle Schorejs of Muskegon, Danielle Gerling (Dennis) of Muskegon and Nicole Schorejs of Muskegon; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Warren Young of Grand Haven; sister-in-law, Dorothy Young VerBerkmoes of Spring Lake; brother-in-law, John Wigman of Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Shirley in death were her husband, Joe; sister, Helen (Carney) Leversee of Grand Haven; brothers, Roland (Lydia) Young of Spring Lake and Robert Young of Grand Haven; sister-in-law, Bertha Young of Grand Haven; brother-in-law, John Schorejs (Vivian) of Fruitport; sister-in-law, Marie Wigman of Wisconsin; and nephew, Jack Leatherman of Grand Haven.
While living in Michigan, Shirley was a member of the Second Reformed Church, 1000 Waverly Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417.
A memorial service for Shirley will be held at the Second Reformed Church at noon Saturday, May 14, 2011.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Second Reformed Church in Shirley’s honor.
