James Martinka

James E. Martinka, 85, of Grand Haven, passed away on July 25, 2011, at Robbinswood Assisted Living Facility.

He was born Feb. 14, 1926, to the late Antonius and Stefania (Gulis) Martinka in Grand Haven at the family home on Columbus Avenue.

He had been a member of the American Legion Post 28, having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II; St. Patrick’s Catholic Church; and the Grand Haven Golf Course, where he spent many years perfecting his game to include the prestigious honor of making a hole-in-one.

Jim is lovingly survived by a son, Steven; two grandsons, Jared Martinka of Florida and Warren Anthony of Washington; sisters: Joan Martinka and Elizabeth (Betty/Harold) Smith, both of West Branch, and Irene Latka of Jackson; daughter-in-law, Carla Barstow of Florida; sister-in-law, Beverly Martinka of Washington; dear friend and neighbor Sheila Clement; many nieces and nephews; and the caring staff of Robbinswood Assisted Living Facility.

His parents; son, John; daughter, Janet Anthony; brother, Anthony Robert; and sister, Mary Helen predecease him.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father William Langlois officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Steve Martinka, 1700 Robbins Road, Lot 489, Grand Haven, MI 49417 for disbursement.
