Utilizing city's natural resources

To the Editor: It has been proposed that high-density apartments be built on the Grand Landing site. Building over 200 high-density apartments (mostly one- and two-bedroom apartments without garages) has been presented to our city Planning Commission for approval.

Residents pointed out at a recent commission meeting that parking spaces, child safety and traffic flow are all very concerning. School zones and bussing are also concerns.

It certainly is understandable that the city must do something to recoup the investment in Grand Landing. The south channel of the Grand River is a natural resource that should be developed to the best (long-term) advantage for our city, and not for a developer’s profit.

I ask for patience, study and input from Grand Haven residents before proceeding. It’s a decision that will last a lifetime.

That much housing in that small of an area is a really, really bad idea. Can you say instant ghetto?

Say no to new taxes

200 of anything on that property is a bad idea, let alone apartments.

Agreed!

I agree also, the condo's aren't selling. Vacant commercial rentals, this hole deal was a flop from the start. Its ruined the whole entrance into Grand Haven, don't make it worse with rentals.

Let's not get carried away. The Grand Landing project is still a much more appealing entrance to the city than Weavers junk yard.

Grand Landing Idea -
Smaller, more affordable homes for young families. Lot size reduced to 66' from regulated 75', to allow more building sites.
LEEDS certified homes.
Geothermal System - its next to the river, so its easy to do, plus it would give the city their 10% of mandatory green energy usage. geocomfort.com
Condo's - extended stay hotel rooms instead of condos. We need hotels, short and long stay options. GrandStayhospitality.com is a chain in Wisconsin. Cheaper than Residents Inn and better than Extended Stay America. And the name is already Grand.
Shops - Trader Joe's in coming to GR. If Trader Joe's comes, other businesses will follow.
Anyone listening? Any thoughts?
