Support GH proposals

To the Editor: The Grand Haven Area Public Schools ballot proposals deserve our enthusiastic support on May 6.
Apr 24, 2014

Although we support all three ballot proposals, we want to focus on the benefits of Bond Proposal 2, which will enhance and improve some of our district's critical arts spaces.  One in eight high school students utilize the performing arts areas in the high school. However, our arts spaces are too small to accommodate our growing number of performing arts students. They lack adequate space to teach, adequate space for instrument storage, and even space for uniform storage. Bond Proposal 2 will enhance and expand these arts areas to accommodate the needs of our arts students and teachers.

Many families consider what kind of resources the schools have available when deciding where to buy a home.  We specifically chose Grand Haven because of the quality of the school system. The Grand Haven arts programs have fostered critical skills and capabilities in our daughters, and have created valuable scholarships for our family.

Grand Haven area residents should want the very best facilities for our students and for our community. Quality facilities enhance the ability of our teachers to teach, and they enhance the value of our community and our homes. For these reasons, we urge you to join us in supporting the Grand Haven Area Public Schools on May 6 by making a "sound investment," and to vote yes for all three proposals.
