LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Restore Ferry’s grave

Apr 20, 2011

I have been trying for about six years to find a way to restore his grave monument. It is now almost impossible to read. However, I managed to copy the entire wording six years ago. There is also some severe damage that has been done by vandals. I have spoken to the Cemetery Board, the sextant, the American Legion and several local citizens about restoring the monument — without any success. I have not started a fund, nor do I know how to go about this, but if there is any organization or help out there, I would very much like  to see it restored before this history is lost. The Ferry family was very instrumental in this community, and I think it would be a great city or private project.

Thanks for your letter Mr. Tripp. I share your concern about the Ferry Grave as well as numerous other historic graves in Lake Forest Cemetery. I can't provide you with any information as to how to go about a grave restoration, but I would be willing to help out any way that I can. You can contact me at the Tri-Cities Historical Museum 616-842-0700.
