The Mulligan’s Hollow parking lot is used for basketball, baseball, soccer, the skate park, beach parking, boardwalk users, special events like most recently the triathlon and finally the YMCA. The current basketball courts are used for Ski Bowl parking in the winter; once returned to green, the Ski Bowl users will have to park in the main lot. Any Ski Bowl user or Y member will confirm that there will not be enough parking. The Y should never have been built without adequate dedicated parking, but that mistake has already been made.
The Y is a nonprofit community organization promoting fitness, as well as teaching swimming, sponsoring summer camps for kids and year round classes for all ages. It does much more.
I don’t have enough space to mention. It is a partner with and a benefit to the city. The city needs to be a good partner and add parking; not take it away. I know former members who left the Y because of lack of parking. There are times the lot is completely full and even closed because of special events or extra busy days.
Even if you leave the Y out if this, improving Mulligan’s Hollow and making it more desirable to attract more users while not adding but taking away parking is a shallow strategy. The city needs to use some of the $57,405 for parking to benefit the Y and all Mulligan’s Hollow users.
