LETTER TO THE EDITOR: We deserve better from our congressman

Feb 8, 2012

I find it outrageous that the person representing us in Washington apparently knows nothing about the president’s accomplishments, a few of which are listed below:

— After three and a half years of disastrous job losses under the previous administration, the president signed the Recovery Act shortly after taking office. We are now in our 23rd consecutive month of private sector jobs growth.

— The private sector has added 3.7 million jobs in those 23 months.

— Despite fierce Republican obstruction, the president pushed through a tax cut, saving the average family $1,000 in 2011.

— Tax incentives for businesses that hire unemployed veterans have been established.

— The president’s emergency loan plan, strongly disparaged by our representative and his party, has saved our Michigan-based auto industry and hundreds of thousands of jobs. Ford, Chrysler and GM are still viable. Moreover, they are now profitable for the first time in years.

— Under the president’s leadership, we have extricated ourselves from Iraq, and have eliminated bin Laden and dozens of the worlds most despicable terrorists.

— Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, hundreds of thousands of young American adults are still able to receive health coverage on their family’s policies.

One can only wonder: Does Mr. Huizenga truly not know about the positive accomplishments happening under the Obama administration? Does he know but refuse to acknowledge when good things happen in our country? Either way, we in Michigan deserve better from our representative. We deserve far better.

Where is the Huizenga list of accomplishments? Shouldn’t there be one?

BLS Seasonally adjusted employment numbers.

January 2009 = 142,187,000

December 2011 = 140,790,000

Net Job Gain/Loss = (1,397,000)

The total number of people employed on President Obama's watch has DECREASED by 1.4 million. How can the private sector add 3.7 million jobs in the last 23 months, and the total count still go down by 1.4 million? Would you have us believe that the government CUT 5.1 million jobs in the last 23 months? I could not find that data anywhere to support that.

Also, the auto bailouts were started by President Bush. This caused a division in the republican party. But Bush felt that not doing this would cripple the economy. He was just recently quoted as saying "I'd do it again. I didn't want there to be 21 percent unemployment." So you cannot give all of the credit on the auto bailout on President Obama.

You state that President Obama has extricated us from Iraq. He actually did this "right on time" according to the Status Of Forces Agreement between the US and the Iraqi Parlement. The agreement, which had been in negotiations since 2007, set a timetable calling for most U.S. troops to leave Iraqi towns and cities by June 30, 2009, with about 50,000 troops left in place until the final withdrawal of all U.S. military forces by Dec. 31, 2011. So President Obama can take credit for following the original agreement and timeline put in place by President Bush.

Lets not forget Obama's credit card company involvement which caused CitiBank to do a customer wide interest rate increase of 150% before his "law to protect us all from high interest rates" went into effect.

Lets not forget due to his meddling in the health care industry our rates went thru the roof and fyi we were insuring our 20 something adult child BEFORE Obama took credit for that.

As for Bin Laden.. I do not remember Obama initiating that whole thing, I could have swore it was GW Bush who set that wheel in motion.. sadly his presidency ended before he was able to say.. okay NOW! So yes.. I suppose you could twist it into being a victory for Obama (rolling eyes).

Why didn't you mention Obama's success in Solyndra?

Why not mention the fact that his "green jobs initiative" has cost jobs.. Lots of jobs??

Yes Mr. Brouwer - Keep drinking that Kool-Aid!! This "president" is all show and no go! Great speaker, party thrower, golfer, world traveler and lets not forget campaigner and chief; all at the tax payers expense. He cannot remember what he said from one hour to the next - this is a pathetic excuse for a "leader" and he has lost most reasonable American voter's respect. Zero credibility and no respect from other world leaders; he is so in over his head.

It seems you forgot to mention Obama's record on our National Debt. Back in 2008 Obama said that having $8,000,000,000,000 in debt was unpatriotic. Well, by the time we reach the 2012 election our National Debt is going to be 16,000,000,000,000.
Obama has taken away our liberties. His campaign contributors have benefited by his policies. Obama has made recess appointments, when Congress wasn't in recess. He does not uphold the Constitution. "The Constitution gets in his way" Those are his words. I hope Obama loses in November, he has done more damage to our Nation than Jimmy Carter. Just wait until this summer when gas prices are right back up to $4-5 per gallon, meanwhile he has denied the pipeline that would help us be less dependent on oil from the Middle East. Don't you see, he says one thing and does another? Some American's listen to words and do not look at actions. It's time to wake up and see what is happening all around you and quit repeating the talking points given to you by the DNC.

Really? What liberty has Obama taken from you?

I think you are so right about this. The congressman needs to work harder and smarter. We need so much more from their work. http://www.crim-lawyers.ca/
