Consequences

FBI profilers say serial killers often begin by torturing animals in their youth.
Apr 9, 2013

To say that animal torture will always progress to serial killing is a quite a generalization.

But Liesa Swejkoski ponders that question in a recent post on her "A Sideshow Journey" blog. She recalls an incident as a child growing up in Detroit when "some really rough kids" poured gasoline on her sister's kittens and set them on fire.

"The youths thought it was pretty funny," Swejkoski wrote in "Consequences?" "My dad had to finish the kittens off as they were beyond saving. My sister was inconsolable."

Swejkoski said her dad called the police, who talked to the parents of the "rough kids."

The police said, "Well, it was just cats. What are ya' gonna do? Boys will be boys."

"Those boys were thugs and later ended up in prison for assault and worse," Swejkoski wrote. "I can't help but think, what if there had been intervention sooner and the parents hadn't stopped the authorities from doing their job?"

This is the PETA defense if you hurt an animal your a serial killer. PETA lies to people all the time and they also kill many animals themselves. Google it.

The Manitou

Dear Peter,
Let me start by saying, I'm no fan of PETA. It's true that they don't even deem the use of cats and dogs as pets. Now, let me add, I never brought PETA into this discussion, my blog nor the article above. You did. My husband hunts and I fish. I accept humane harvesting, support family farms and I believe in using beasts kindly. (e.g. Four-H, pony rides, pets, dog shows etc.) I do not believe in animal abuse for human pleasure. I’m also against “factory farms”. Back to the intent of the article: the habitual and intentional mistreatment of animals is the symptom of a mental illness. Many of these abusive individuals do indeed become child predators, wife-beaters and serial killers unless strong intervention is used early in the potential perpetrator’s life. You discredit the studies and believe otherwise? Do you also believe the earth is flat? Why are you even worried? If you use an animal or pet fairly, that's great. Enjoy your clear conscience. However, if you're the kind of person who lures my cats onto your property then traps and shoots them; you have bigger issues than I can help you with here.
