Divas tackle breakfast

The Lakeshore Dining Divas, along with some guests, sat down at a Fruitport establishment for their first-ever breakfast review.
Feb 25, 2014

"When one of Nancy's GVSU Seidman College of Business graduate students, Nathan Bair, asked if the Divas would ever consider a breakfast review, we were right on board and decided some homemade comfort food was in order while the wintry weather raged on. We don't need to don our fancy-schmancy attire every time we dine out, and we really enjoy our local hometown favorites. Kelle immediately thought of Suzi's Village Inn located in Fruitport for the occasion. Why? She said the food is consistently delicious with generous portions, reasonable prices, friendly service, and they always keep your coffee cup full."

With some of the Divas unable to make the trip, they relied on the opinions of Blair and friend Paul Jabaay to round out the review crew.

Woooo Hooooo, is that time of the month again! Pass the grits please!

Seriously, I'm a breakfast person, does this joint have corn beef hash on their menu? If they do we're going to go give it a shot, if they don't, then we'll stick with our favorite in-town joint.

Hiccups already?

TooMuch

Where? And I'll go there ... never.

I'd probably eat breakfast for every meal of the day if our economic system ever takes a break from keeping me down. Ronald McDonald's authoritarian policies on breakfast availability (who wants a Big Mac at 10:30 AM anyway?) have not done any favors for Mayor McCheese and his administration. Hopefully one day McCheese and the liberal judges will stop coddling hard core recidivists like the Hamburgler. Otherwise McDonaldland may ultimately be reduced to rubble...rubble...rubble.

Wolfgang's in East Town GR is the reigning champion when there's a fast in need of breaking in West Michigan, although the Dee Lite and Morning Star Cafe in GH are strong contenders. If the divas can ever be talked into driving a bit in their crusade to bring enlightenment and waffles to the good people of West Michigan I'd like to get their opinion on Waffle House. I'd hate to drive all the way down to the Deep South of Michigan only to find that the waffle texture was a little uninspiring or that their grits could be described as "pedestrian, at best." Once you get south of about the Allegan-Van Buren county line or so you can usually hear some creepy banjo music off in the distance and that never ends well.

Don't forget Grimace. Reminds me of one of the Divas.

Former Grandhavenite

In all fairness to Grimace the divas may have been high on "purple drank" when they wrote this review, and I'm sure many readers did indeed grimace when they saw it.

LessThanAmused

Hey Barry, what happened to your post about the shape of grimace that was right here last time I looked, did you have a change of heart?

Former Grandhavenite

This has always just been a blank section of this web site with no posts to be seen as far as I know.

Looks like I dodged a bullet though! My speculation regarding purple-hued dranks and the Divas' copious consumption thereof seems to be on the right side of the law, while Barry's post was seen as racist toward Grimace and whatever race he is, by suggesting that he may in fact be more closely related both genetically and culturally to inhabitants of the Diva Homeworld than to humanity.

Bad-attitude

Maybe I am missing something but why should anyone listen to what these vapid women have to say about anything? I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt when all this nonsense started with "the dining divas" but every single article of theirs I read just stuns me with the ridiculous crap they offer. This really has no place in our local newspaper!

Barry Soetoro

You, sir, have a bad attitude.

Barry Soetoro

C'mon Divas - bring back the high dollar establishments.

Lanivan

Some ideas for our new band venue??

Barry Soetoro

We'll never get the Divas to Sporty's.

Bad-attitude

Now I would like to see them at Sporty's! I might even go in just to watch that!

Barry Soetoro

I'd hold the Trib Commenter's Beer Summit at Sporty's but they don't serve Labatt's.

Lanivan

No kidding? The last I checked they don't serve Glenmorangie either....

What are you big spenders doing on my side of town??

Barry Soetoro

I can't speak for Lani but I was lured by the dollar drafts on Sunday night. It's not good to go out and play on a school night though.

LessThanAmused

LOL! You're funny Mr. Soetoro. :-)

Karingh

For the love of all that is holy...put this crap out to pasture...ENOUGH!!!! What a JOKE the ladies and their "diva" experience bring to our local "fish wrap" LOL....... maybe all this crap food they are dining on will bring on a bout of food poisoning and END THIS ALREADY!

Karingh

LOL...just looked at their pic of the food...with 4 teenagers that looks my weekend breakfast table.....maybe they will come dine at my establishment..called HOME, except I put fresh fruit on the table and whip cream for the pancakes. I wonder? do these "divas" even cook? can they look in their fridge and come up with something wonderful to make with what they have? what is their expertise??????

Barry Soetoro

So now that I have actually read their full review I'm left wondering how you get a piece of bacon with no fat on it???

Scrolling down to the bottom I discovered these fine ladies are actually cougars - using food reviews as a way to lure their young prey. Shame on you Divas!!

lady1983

We eat at Village Inn on weekends quite a bit. The food is good, and I special order the be-jesus out of everything. The staff is always polite, and openly flirt with my husband. It makes me smile. I too would love to see those "Diva's" in Sportys, those boys would eat them alive.

horst

This is funny stuff. Every time the Divas hit the road the comment section of their article explodes....Barry, LTA, FGH...you're killing me...stomach hurts...tearing up from laughter :-)....please Trib, keep it going, this is cracking me up!!!!

Bee

This made my day also! Glad to hear their are decent breakfast places in the Tri Cities. The two in Downtown GH well you know....

LessThanAmused

Have you tried Jeannie's over on Robbins Rd? That's our go to place for breakfast when we can afford to eat out. The only bad part is having to wait for a table sometimes.....

jenkem

I hear there is a great place for breakfast at the location adjacent to the Grand Haven 9

jenkem

Wow. So groundbreaking. Much interest. Pls tell me more.

LessThanAmused
