Give Wiedenhoeft a chance

To the Editor: What are the main qualities we look for in candidate to represent us in the Michigan legislature?
Jun 23, 2014

Most would say finding a candidate who shares our basic values and possesses the ability to understand and speak to our interests while in Lansing.  This representation is the sacred trust we give our State Representatives who then animate it by casting their votes on our behalf.
Disappointment runs deep when Representatives we vote for don’t do what we thought they would do.  This has been the experience of many citizens who live in the 89th District currently represented by Amanda Price.
Amanda Price has voted yes on the following legislation: Medicare Expansion, Common Core, Detroit Pension Bailout, Michigan Minimum Wage Increase, and increasing the Gas Tax.  These reflect the bigger government/more spending mindset that has hurt Michigan for decades.
The August Primary is around the corner.  Those in the 89th District who feel she has failed to represent them have the opportunity to replace her with a new, principled candidate in the November election.
Matt Weidenhoeft teaches Economics and Accounting and owns his own successful business consulting company.  These experiences will prove immensely valuable to the legislature as Michigan lumbers toward recovery.
Our job as citizens is to remove representatives who break promises, betray principles, and fail to meet our expectations.  Give Matt Weidenhoeft a chance to prove himself to the 89th District…and then hold him to the promises he makes.
