Here on the forgotten side of Grand Haven (the North Shore), my neighbors and I ask, "What infrastructure?" We have no sanitary sewer service, no sidewalks or curbs. Our "bike path" is a painted line on North Shore Road. Our street lighting consists of obsolete 30-year-old mercury vapor fixtures strung over the road on a wire every 150 feet.
Come down our street after a hard rain and you'll drive through four inches of standing water. This neighborhood delivers a substantial amount of property tax and building permit revenue every year to the city of Grand Haven, yet seems to get little or nothing in the way of improvements.
That has to change if you want our support for a tax increase.
