The monthly siren test in Ottawa County will occur at noon Friday. Ottawa County Central Dispatch will coordinate the test, utilizing the county all-call activation tones and the cancel tone after approximately 2 minutes of activation. The tests are held on the first Friday of each month, March through November. The next scheduled test, the final one for 2011, is Nov. 4.

The Ottawa County Clerk's Office has entered the digital age when it comes to sending certified documents for residents and those doing business. The office recently took on a service called TrueCertify by ImageSoft, in which people can authenticate and deliver certified documents electronically, allowing the recipient to verify the document contents via the Internet.

The Ottawa County 4-H Tech Wizards program is seeking caring adults to become mentors for youth attending Central High School in Grand Haven and Van Raalte Tech in Holland. Mentors needed are professionals working in the related fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Applicants must be age 21 and older, willing to complete a background check and be able to commit two hours per week for one school year.

A 29-year-old Dorr man is facing home invasion charges for his alleged involvement in several Ottawa County burglaries. Richard William Bouse was arrested Monday and is facing a first-degree home invasion charge. Lt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department said Bouse is likely responsible for a series of home invasions in western and southern Ottawa County between Aug. 29 and Sept. 12.

The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for Ottawa County from midnight to 9 a.m. Friday. Temperatures are forecast to drop into the mid 30s late tonight and areas of frost are likely. Tender vegetation could suffer frost damage if not protected or brought indoors tonight.

The Greater Ottawa County United Way officially launched its community campaign today with the annual "Day of Caring.' Close to 800 volunteers pitched in to clean county parks, landscape school grounds, stock food pantry shelves, and paint and pound for those in need. Locally, Grand Haven and Spring Lake school staffs swapped sides of the bridge to work on each other's landscaping projects. At a noon picnic for volunteers, Campaign Chairman Scott Remenschneider announced this year's campaign goal of $2.3 million.

Scott Remenschneider, vice president of Huntington National Bank in Holland, will serve as chairman of the Greater Ottawa County United Way's 2011-12 Community Campaign. The campaign will kick off Sept. 15 - which is also the local United Way's Day of Caring, the largest one-day volunteer event in the county. Remenschneider will announce the campaign goal at NASCAR RV Park (formerly Yogi Bear Camp & Resort) in Grand Haven Township at 12:30 p.m. that day.
