Ottawa County residents are feeling great

Ottawa County is near the top of a list of healthiest counties in the state for the third year in a row. Rankings released by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation shows that Ottawa County is the second healthiest county in Michigan.

Winter weather advisory

(UPDATE: CANCELED) A winter weather advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday for a good portion of west and central Michigan, although Ottawa County is on the southern fringe of where the precipitation is expected to change from rain to sleet and snow.

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a frost advisory for much of west and central Michigan, including Ottawa County, to be in effect from midnight until 9 a.m. Thursday.

Berry concerned

Local fruit growers are keeping a close eye on their crops as the temperature was expected to dip below freezing overnight. "Right now, we're just really concerned,' Bob Carini, owner of Carini Farms in West Olive, said Monday. "There's a freeze warning tonight and (the crops are) five weeks ahead of schedule.'

Market stablizes

Those with a pulse on the real estate market are noticing an improvement in the foreclosure situation. "The market has definitely started to correct itself,' said real estate agent Jake Hogeboom of Coldwell Banker Schmidt. "There haven't been as many foreclosures.'
