Grand Haven City Council approved an agreement with Meijer and Grand Haven Township to provide Harbor Transit bus service to the store.
Meijer will pay Grand Haven Township $8,828 for the bus service through June 30, 2009. The township will then submit the payment to Harbor Transit.
The Grand Rapids-based retailer will have the option to continue the service each year after finding out how much it will cost to continue it.
In October, Meijer sent a letter to Harbor Transit staff saying the service would be discontinued Oct. 14, which prompted an outcry from those who rely on the bus service for transportation.
After more discussion, including some intervention by City Councilman Ed Nieuwenhuis who used to work for Meijer, Meijer officials agreed to continue the service to their Grand Haven Township store.
