GH grad Olthoff shining for N. Michigan skiing

MARQUETTE Grand Haven's Caleb Olthoff helped lead his Northern Michigan University men's ski team to a second-place finish at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association's Regional meet, held Feb. 16-17 at Marquette Mountain.
Twenty-one college teams from the Midwest region were represented.
The top three men's and women's teams, as well as the top male and female athletes not on a qualifying team, advanced to the USCSA National Championships scheduled to be held at Sunday River in Maine March 3-9.
The Northern Michigan University men's Alpine team lost out on a tiebreaker with St. Olaf College (Minn.) to take second place overall and gained a berth to the nationals.
NMU's women's Alpine team came in fifth place and just missed the cut. NMU's Brianne Horton was the top female individual and will represent the Midwest region in Maine.
