No one at wheel of car that hits restaurant

Mon, Mar 24, 2008    to del.icio.us

MIDLAND (AP) — A local restaurant probably wasn't counting on the drive-in business it got a few nights ago.

A driverless Chevrolet Aveo crashed into the front doors of the Ruby Tuesday restaurant in the Midland Mall on Friday night. The Midland Daily News reported that nobody was hurt.

Police said the subcompact car wasn't in gear and the parking brake wasn't engaged when its owner, 36-year-old Marsha Shattuck of Sanford, used a remote starter and it rolled from its parking space. It shattered the exterior doors' glass but, thanks to a set of inside doors, no debris got into the dining area and there was no structural damage.

Shattuck wasn't ticketed.
