SPRING LAKE — Acclaimed Chicago trombonist Tom Garling will perform at Spring Lake High School, 16140 148th Ave., on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Garling will be accompanied by the Spring Lake High School Big Band and Middle School Jazz Band.

"This jazz concert gives our students the opportunity to play with a professional musician, and at the same time provide some really exciting entertainment for the community," said Spring Lake Band Director Mark Truszkowski.

Special guest performers include Paul Lesinski on the piano, Matt Heredia on bass and Max Colley III on drums.

Garling is a recording artist, performer, composer, arranger, teacher and clinician. He has performed with countless artists including Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Dizzy Gillespie.

In 1986, at the age of 20, Garling played with Buddy Rich's last touring band. A few years later, Garling joined Maynard Ferguson's Big Bop Nouveau Band, and served as the band's musical director and trombonist for six years.

General admission tickets will be available at the door. The cost is $7 for adults, and $4 for students and senior citizens.
