Lydia DeMaagd

Mrs. Lydia DeMaagd, age 93, of Coopersville was called home to her Lord and Saviour Jesus on Monday, May 5, 2008.

Lydia was born Jan. 11, 1915, to Richard and Jenny DeVries in Conrad, MT. She moved to Holland, MI, to attend Hope College and graduated with a teaching degree. While at Hope College, Lydia met friends that lived in Coopersville, MI, and was introduced to Ted DeMaagd of Coopersville. They dated and eventually married and settled in Coopersville. Lydia taught school in Coopersville Public Schools for 20 plus years and was a member of Church of the Saviour in Coopersville.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father Jenny and Richard DeVries; sister Margaret; brothers: John, Ray, Art and Herb.

Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Ted; children. David (Vickie) DeMaagd of Spring Lake and Sasha Watson of Coopersville; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Maureen) DeVries of Conrad, MT; sister-in-law, Jessie DeVries of Palmer, AK; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are Thursday at 11 a.m. at Church of the Saviour in Coopersville with the Rev. David Kingma officiating. Burial will be in Coopersville Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville and Thursday one hour prior to the funeral service at church.

Arrangements are being handled by Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville.
