Five staff members of Grand Haven Area Public Schools have been selected for the district's 2008 Excellence in Service Awards. The award is given to those considered to be the "best of the best" in the district.

The EIS award recipients this year are Ferry Elementary School second-grade teacher Char Krass, Rosy Mound Elementary School secretary Nancy TenHagen, Athletic Director Jack Provencal, Rosy Mound fourth-grade teacher Kathy Lampen and Peach Plains Elementary School secretary Carol Holtzclaw.

The awards were presented Wednesday afternoon during the GHAPS staff in-service day.

Later this month, the award-winners will receive a monetary award — donated by individuals and businesses in the community — at a dinner in their honor.

"These exemplary employees reflect lifelong commitments to the field of education," said Superintendent Keith Konarska. "They come from our classrooms, offices, buses and playgrounds, and perform their multi-faceted jobs in remarkable ways."

The EIS program began in 1982 as a way to recognize and encourage superior performance and to cultivate a continued expectation of excellence at GHAPS.
