Warriors' track and field wins home invitational

Western Michigan Christian boys and girls won their own invitational Thursday, held at Fruitport High School's track.

The boys scored 81 points compared with North Pointe Christian's 51. Hudsonville Freedom Baptist added 18, and West Michigan Lutheran scored five.

WMC's girls scored 66 points compared to overwhelm the field. North Pointe Christian scored 18 while West Michigan Lutheran and North Hills Classical Academy each ended with 13 points.

Event winners for the WMC boys were:

Shot Put: Bekins, 29 feet

Long jump: VanZee, 17 feet, 5 inches

High jump: Meyers, 5-3

3,200-meter relay: Trier, Katje, Veurink, Reiffer, 9 minutes, 22 seconds

110 hurdles: Cassleman, 19.1 seconds

100 dash: Anderson, 11.5 seconds

800 relay: VanZee, Anderson, Mitchell, Cassleman, 1:37.2

400 relay: Cassleman, Anderson, Mitchell VanZee, 46.2

400 dash: Trier, 57.5

1600 relay: VanZee, Trier, Meyers, Reiffer, 3:56.6.

Event winners for WMC girls were:

Long jump: Gordon, 14-5

100 hurdles: VanDyke, 18-2

100 dash: Gordon, 13.2

1600 run: Schuitema, 6:10.0

300 hurdles: VanDyke, 49.8

800 run: Schuitema, 2:51.6

200 dash: VanDyke, 28.4

3200 run: Schuitema, 14:40.5

GOLF

WMC was just five strokes shy from first place Thursday at the River Valley Conference Jamboree at L.E. Kaufman Golf Course.

The Warriors fired a 171 compared with NorthPointe Christian's first place score of 166.

WMC sophomore Caleb Johnson was medalist with an even-par 36.

He was followed by teammates Collin Breit with a 40, Chris Wisen-46 and Daniel Rosema a 49.

TENNIS

Western Michigan Christian swept all four singles and the No. 1 doubles at home Thursday without losing a game to defeat Fruitport 5-3.
