HazMat cleans liquid fertilizer spill at Mobil

Mon, May 12, 2008    to del.icio.us

A HazMat crew spent three and a half hours Saturday cleaning up a liquid fertilizer leak in the parking lot of Mobil gas station, 1 S. Beacon Blvd.

A spill was reported to Grand Haven Department of Public Safety around 9:15 a.m. Saturday. Arriving officers found a Tru Green truck in the parking lot that had leaked about 90 gallons of dimension herbicide from its 260-gallon tank onto Washington Avenue and the gas station parking lot.

HazMat crews used 25 bags of absorb oil to cleanup 80 gallons of the spill, according to police. Another 10 gallons spilled into a nearby storm drain, but was cleaned out using a trash pump, police said.

Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police Department assisted with the cleanup.
