Grand Haven completed a perfect 7-0 record in the O-K Red Conference Monday, as two second-half goals paved the way for a 3-1 victory over Jenison at Buccaneer Stadium.
Grand Haven improves to 11-1-3 overall.
The Wildcats held tough in the first half, as the two squads were deadlocked at one after 40 minutes of action. Sam Dykema got the Bucs on the scoreboard first, scoring off an assist from Laura Terry.
The Wildcats scored with 2 minutes, 48 seconds left in the first half.
Andrea Norman accounted for the eventual game-winner in the second half, as she was assisted by Sarah Rose. Heather Koats added an insurance goal with two minutes remaining for the final margin of victory.
The Bucs host the first round of the O-K Red Tournament Thursday at Buccaneer Stadium. The contest is slated to begin at 6:45 p.m.
JUNIOR VARSITY: Grand Haven improved to 10-2-3 this season with a 3-0 shutout over Jenison Monday. Scoring goals for Grand Haven included Sarah Kober, Jen Prouty and Alex Mann.
TROJANS NEED ONLY 1 HALF
Fruitport got it done in only 40 minutes of play in the opening round of the Lakes Eight Tournament Monday at Fruitport High School, scoring a 8-0 shutout against Newaygo.
The Trojans scored all eight of their goals against the visiting Lions in the first half, prompting a mercy-shortened game. Jamie Adams led the Trojans' attack with four goals, while Julie Reed added two, and Andrea Jones and Hannah Saheb added a goal apiece. Saheb and Shelby Gotaas added two assists apiece, while Jones and Kristine Harig each tallied one assist.
Fruitport (9-4-1 overall) outshot the Lions 20-0.
The Trojans play in a second-round game Wednesday, also at home.
JUNIOR VARSITY: Fruitport blanked Spring Lake Monday, 2-0. Anna Carmean and Hannah Nelson scored for the Trojans, while goalie Shannon McAvinchey was credited with the shutout.
SL CRUSHES GRANT
Spring Lake simply dominated visiting Grant Monday, routing the Tigers 9-0 in a contest that was called at the half due to the mercy rule.
The Lakers (11-1-3 overall) advance to Wednesday's Lakes Eight Conference semifinals against the winner of Fremont and Orchard VIew.
Monday, Jen Boven and Jenny Kalejs each scored two goals for the Lakers, while Abby Duer, Haley Smith, Toni Lesneski, Gabi Yoshonis, and Rachel Kilbry each notched a single goal.
Stefanie Pellegrom only had to make one save in goal for the Lakers.
