EATON TOWNSHIP (AP) Eaton County authorities said a 72-year-old woman was hurt Tuesday morning when she drove her sport utility vehicle into the path of a freight train at an ungated railroad crossing.
The Sheriff's Department said the injuries to Pinkie Moore of Charlotte aren't believed to be life-threatening.
Police said Moore was driving on a gravel road and stopped at the crossing in Eaton Township, just north of Charlotte, then drove onto the tracks. The impact knocked the SUV into a creek.
Charlotte Fire Chief Kevin Fullerton said there have been a number of crashes and several deaths at the crossing.
Neighbors told the Lansing State Journal that the crossing is scheduled to get barrier arms in a few weeks.
