GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department says it has in custody the man responsible for a hit-and-run crash over the weekend.
David Nelson, 32, of Grand Haven was backing his vehicle out of a residence on Lakeshore Drive near Whippoorwill Drive at 8:25 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by a car traveling south on Lakeshore, Sgt. Keith Garvelink said.
According to Garvelink, the green 1997 Pontiac Bonneville that hit Nelson's vehicle was traveling at a very high rate of speed. The Bonneville crossed the center line, went off the road and flipped, Garvelink said. The driver, described as an Hispanic male wearing green shorts and a white T-shirt, fled the scene on foot, Garvelink said.
Nelson received minor injuries in the incident and was not hospitalized.
The suspect was caught Sunday morning, police said.
