Western Michigan Christian scored twice early in the second half at Spring Lake Thursday night to hand the Lakers their first loss of the season, 2-0.
WMC freshman John Waller sent a great pass to junior Daniel Rosema, who scored with five minutes gone in the second half.
Seven minutes later, junior Justin Baker controlled a rebound shot and fired it in.
"It was a great win for us," coach David Hulings said. "Evan (Bruinsma), Case (Ryzebol), Justin (Baker), Waller and Rosema all played well," Hulings said. He also had special praise for junior keeper Tyler Lane who had several great saves while stopping 15 Laker shots. Spring Lake out shot the Warriors, 18-16.
"We worked hard. We just let down for a few minutes, especially in the second half," said Lakers' coach Jeremy Thelen. "They scored that first goal and we were stunned, and we played in slow motion for a while, and they scored again."
JUNIOR VARSITY: The Lakers edged WMC, 3-2.
