GH volleyball goes 3-0

Grand Haven's varsity volleyball squad swept all three matches at Thursday's home quad meet.
The Bucs got past Whitehall, 25-19, 16-25, 15-6, before dispatching of Fremont, 25-21, 25-19. Grand Haven then faced off against rival Mona Shores and came away with a 25-22, 27-29, 15-13 win.
"We saw some big improvements today," said coach Aaron Smaka, whose team is 8-3. "We were a little bit more consistent. This team continues to work hard."
Mindy Marx had a strong showing for the Bucs, finishing with 24 kills and six blocks. Stacy Kalsbeek added 18 kills, 25 points, six aces and 30 assists. Lauren Stolarz had 31 assists, and Alyssa VanderStel finished with 19 assists.
JUNIOR VARSITY: Grand Haven defeated Whitehall (25-14, 26-24) and Mona Shores (25-19, 25-12) Thursday. Tuesday, Grand Haven went 2-1 at East Kentwood.
FRESHMEN: The Bucs scored wins over Mona Shores, 25-21, 17-25, 15-8; the host Vikings, 17-25, 25-23, 15-8; and Fremont, 16-25, 25-19, 15-5.
