BLP makes improvements in Ferrysburg

FERRYSBURG — New construction and growth of the load on the power system has led the Grand Haven Board of Light & Power to upgrade and replace part of its distribution system, BLP officials said.

Over the past few weeks, BLP crews and crews contracted from Kent Power have been replacing power poles in the Ferrysburg area, BLP Distribution Superintendent Jim Blekicki said. Development in the Spring Lake and Ferrysburg has increased the load, necessitating the changes, he said.

BLP crews have rebuilt the system along North Shore Drive, Blekicki said, and most recently along Third Street in Ferrysburg.

According to Blekicki, the BLP has other projects planned for the fall — including work to be done on the two towers crossing the Grand River, which is set to begin in September.
