DETROIT (AP) A Livonia high school student will spend up to 15 years in prison in a drunken-driving car crash that killed one person.
Wayne County Circuit Judge Deborah Thomas sentenced Daniel Aldo Andreassi to five to 15 years in prison on Thursday.
The 16-year-old pleaded no contest on Aug. 7 to motor-vehicle manslaughter, operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and two lesser charges. A no-contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but it is treated as one at sentencing.
Prosecutors said Andreassi used alcohol and marijuana before a May 18 high-speed crash that killed 20-year-old Anthony Michael Cosenza of Detroit and injured 20-year-old Amy Adams of Westland.
Defense attorney Jerome Sabbota said the plea deal was reasonable and fair.
