Fruitport scored a pair of non-conference baseball victories over Muskegon Catholic Central Monday, winning 10-7 and 5-3.
In the opener, Trent Vandygriff picked up the victory, going six innings while walking just one. Nick Brezina earned his first save of the year as he recorded the final three outs.
The Trojans broke open a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning with six runs, sparked by a three-run double by Tyler Basch.
Patrick Arntson, Cody Patterson and Basch each collected two hits for the Trojans.
Freshman Cody Merkins picked up the victory in Game 2, with Brezina again earning the save.
Ryan Senecal went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored, while Jordan Hill was 2-for-2 with a pair of stolen bases.
The Trojans, now 17-13 on the season, look to wrap up the Lakes Eight Conference title today as they host Newaygo for a league doubleheader.
WMC STOPS BULLDOGS
The Warriors posted a quality victory Monday over a hard-hitting Ravenna team, 8-5.
WMC pitcher Zeb Boeskool of Grand Haven pitched seven innings, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out three. After a shaky first inning in which the Bulldogs scored four runs, Boeskool mixed in his off-speed pitches to keep the Bulldogs off balance.
Brett Cavanaugh knocked out a pair of singles. Matt Becker had a two-run double and Andrew Rop added an RBI double, scored two runs and knocked in two.
WMC improves to 9-11 while Ravenna's record stands at 14-8.
