Covenant hoops lights up Warriors, 91-81

Western Michigan Christian put 81 points on the board in their opening River Valley Conference clash at home with Covenant Christian Tuesday night, but the Chargers exposed the Warriors' defense and scored 91 to hand the WMC its first loss of the season.
WMC, ranked No. 5 in Class D, trailed 25-17 at the end of the first quarter and 46-41 at intermission. Leading WMC scorer Evan Bruinsma picked up his third foul late in the first period and didn't return until the second half.
Sophomore London Burris kept the Warriors in the game the first half by canning four second-period 3-pointers. He finished the night with 17 points and 13 assists.
The Warriors tied the game at 49-49 early in the third period, but trailed 64-61 going into the final stanza. The Chargers broke the game open with 27 fourth-quarter points.
Bruinsma led WMC with 18 points followed by Burris' 17. Darien Burse added 15 and Jeff Burris 11.
Mario Harris and Bruinsma had eight and four steals respectively for WMC.
The Warriors, 3-1 on the season and 0-1 in the conference, travel to No. 1 state-ranked Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian Friday.
JUNIOR VARSITY: The Warriors lost 62-51. Omari Lewis tossed in 14 points, Jason Prince 12 and John Waller 10.
