GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP One man was killed Monday morning in a crash involving two trucks at a construction zone near Hudsonville.
Chad Alan Brewer, 31, of Georgetown Township was killed in the eastbound lanes of I-196, just east of the M-6 interchange, when the 1999 service truck he was driving for Speed Wrench Inc. struck the rear of a dump truck with an attached trailer.
The dump truck was stopped in traffic, just west of a construction zone where the roadway narrowed to one lane, at about 8:10 a.m. The driver of the dump truck, Gregory Sobie of Marne, told police he had stopped his vehicle because of traffic backups caused by the road construction.
Brewer was pinned in his vehicle after the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A small fire in Brewer's truck was put out with a fire extinguisher by bystanders.
Both men were wearing seat belts; and Sobie, 52, was not injured in the crash, police said.
The crash remains under investigation.
