State Rep. Arlan Meekhof, R-West Olive, said he is "disappointed" by Grand Valley State University's decision to give benefits to the live-in partners of university employees.
The benefits apply to gay partners and any other live-in partners who are unrelated adults and have lived for at least 18 months with a full-time GVSU employee.
"Our college students face enough problems on campus," Meekhof said. "We don't need their leadership promoting immorality as well."
Meekhof said he plans to contact each of the seven GVSU trustees that approved the change and ask them to reverse the decision.
GVSU Board Chairwoman Lucille Taylor cast the only dissenting vote.
