Teens arrested in vending machine robbery

Tue, Sep 2, 2008    to del.icio.us

OLIVE TOWNSHIP — Two teens were arrested Friday night after they allegedly smashed a golf course's vending machine.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department responded to a call reporting sounds of a possible burglary at the Crestview Golf Club, 6279 96th Ave., just before 11 p.m., said Sgt. Keith Garvelink.

Deputies approached the scene on foot, Garvelink said, and heard what sounded like items being smashed. They then found a vending machine that had been toppled over and smashed open, Garvelink said.

A K-9 unit led deputies to a house on the 9000 block of Bingham Street where the suspects, ages 13 and 14, were apprehended.

The case will be referred to Ottawa County Probate Court, Garvelink said.
