Mon, Nov 2, 2009    to del.icio.us

CROCKERY TOWNSHIP — A 76-year-old Spring Lake Township man suffered minor inuries after he swerved his car to avoid a deer in the road and hit a tree.

Officers from the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department said Paul Schuelke was traveling east on Leonard Road near Cypress Street when he swerved to avoid hitting a deer.

Emergency crews from the Crockery Township Fire Department responded at about 7:40 a.m. after the driver lost control of his 1996 Saturn, striking both the deer he was trying to avoid and a tree on the side of the road.

Schuelke was transported to North Ottawa Community Hospital with minor injuries to his face, police said.
