We received two cargos in the early part of last week. At midnight on Oct. 25, the articulated tug barge (ATB) Invincible/McKee Sons delivered a load of coal to the Board of Light & Power Sims Plant on Harbor Island. It departed at 7 a.m. on Oct. 26 for Chicago and returned on Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. with another load for the same destination. These were its second and third visits of the season.
We have received 50 cargos and shipped out nine on 18 different boats so far this season. This compares with 68 received and two shipped out on 15 different boats last year at this time. Of those 18 boats the ATB Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41 delivered 11 of the cargos received. This continues to reflect the state of the economy.
We know that we are expecting more coal boats, but we have no schedule at this writing. The Undaunted/Pere Marquette 4 may come to Verplank's next week. No other boats are expected at this time.
For those interested in the Grand Trunk Railroad Car Ferries and the USCG Cutter Acacia there is a presentation at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Loutit District Library.
