MUSKEGON Muskegon Community College Overbrook Gallery presents the opening of "The Art of Scott Rosema" today. The exhibit will continue through Dec. 16.
Rosema, of Muskegon, has been a professional illustrator and graphic artist for more than 23 years, working for clients nationally and world-wide, including Warner Brothers, Disney, Dreamworks, Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and Cartoon Network. His specific illustrations include X-Men, Looney Tunes, Aladdin, Star Trek, and Scooby-Doo. He also markets his own fantasy-themed paintings and drawings as limited-edition high-quality computer glicee prints. Rosema is a graduate of Whitehall public schools and Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids. He co-owns Temujin Studio in Muskegon with his wife, Suzy, a stained glass artist.
"Drawing, for me, came very naturally and very early; I've been joyfully scribbling away since about four years old," Rosema said. "But it wasn't until in my teens, after being obviously influenced by comics for years by then, did it occur to me that art could be more than just a means to its own end. It could also provide a means of communicating...and comic books are an incredibly powerful communication method.."
This exhibit also highlights MCC's new certificate program in Video Game Design. Rosema is scheduled to teach ART 297CD, "Character Design for Video Gaming" in upcoming semesters.
Overbrook Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday with special weekend and evening hours during performances of "Merry Christmas Mr. Bailey," Dec. 2-6 in the adjacent Overbrook Theater. For more information call the MCC Creative and Performing Arts department at (231) 777-0324.
