CHESTER TOWNSHIP The condition of a Ravenna teen who was taken to the hospital with critical injuries after being hit by a truck Wednesday morning has improved to serious, hospital officials said this morning.
Paige Holtz, 13, was walking east on Sherman Road near the intersection of 40th Avenue in Ottawa County's Chester Township when she was struck by an eastbound Ford F-150, said Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. Police were called to the scene at 6:50 a.m.
The pickup truck was being driven by Jonathon Cardinal, 26, Austin said. Cardinal told police he struck Holtz when he looked up after reaching down to grab his cell phone, Austin said.
Holtz was taken to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids after the accident. Cardinal was not injured, Austin said.
The incident remains under investigation, Austin said.
